Two half truths exist in photography; humor works in a photograph and pictures of animals can be potentially good. These exist because they are sometimes true. Sometimes. Humor can assist a mediocre image in capturing your attention long enough to declare it passable. And occasionally there are superior images of animals taken. Elliot Ewritt has an entire catalouge of these images. Many use both techniques, humor and our favorite pets. But get beyond the ooohs and the aahhs. Does the image have legs to stand on? (puns fit in this category, too, of being sometimes ok)
Even though I am skeptical about most images involving funny or furry, I admit I have my share of animal pics. They are irresistible, which is probably why so many exist. Admit it, could you resist shooting a bald headed man under an enormous quartered pig? Thought not. Warhol’s stuffed lion was just visually intriguing. I tried to narrow it down but it was hard.
Enjoy these photos without the requirement of admitting they are “good”. I’ll settle for mediocre. They are meant to be fun. I refrained from showing the wonderful meal we made of that Wahoo caught in St. Croix or seasoned hunters putting their kill in the back of their truck…and even the captures of blood being washed from said truck. Those images were neither funny, nor involved animals or were even very “good”.
